Design novel hemp composite PPEs and a novel ARV Drug to treat COVID-19 disease

The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has caused a number of deaths globally. In response to the pandemic we have used all our resources to assist by firstly utilizing computer based drug target interactions (DTI) predictions to identify FDA approved Drugs which binds to the active pocket of COVID-19 main protease (C19MP), 6LU7 to control or cure COVID-19. Secondly, SA Rebuilders has developed a novel antiviral formulation with improved bioavailability to treat HIV. Recent computer based DTI predictions identified non- nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTI) and protease

South African social media users COVID-19 health information seeking and coping during lockdown.

The COVID-19 pandemic and the lockdown implemented to prevent the spread of the virus has created a crisis in the economy and in education as well as posing a challenge for public health. During public health crises as what we are currently experiencing, an immense and immediate need for information and effective crisis communication is created among the public. This coupled with social media users’ inclination to share information, particularly news, regardless of whether they themselves believe the news or not, creates the circumstances for misinformation (inaccurate information) and

Investigating the effectiveness of COVID-19 risk communication in mitigating the disaster, a Bloemfontein perspective

For the past years, the South African disaster management fraternity has invested significantly in disaster response and less in disaster risk reduction, in particular risk communication. Such activities transpired since the promulgation of the Disaster Management Act 57 of 2002 and the National Disaster Management Framework of 2005, which mandate its operations. Moreover, these legislations mandate a proactive approach for disaster management institutions. This approach strongly requires the fraternity to place its focus on disaster risk reduction and strategic risk communication is pivotal

Patterns of reilience amongst South Africans during COVID-19

During this time of a global pandemic, individuals all over the world are experiencing some sort of acute stress, uncertainty and anxiety (Presti, McHugh, Gloster, Karekla,

Representations of COVID-19 by the Mapula Embroidery Project

We have commissioned 14 embroidered panels from the Mapula Embroidery Project in the Winterveld, just north of Pretoria. The idea is that the making of the works will provide project members with opportunities to convey their observations about the impact of the disease on their lives and community, while also gleaning a much-needed income during this difficult time. Our plan is to exhibit the works in the gallery that is part of our facility when this is feasible, and to show time this show to coincide with a conference on representations of pandemics.
