The mandate for the NRF, which it strives to uphold, is to promote and support national research through funding, human resource development and the provision of the necessary facilities. This is to enable and encourage the creation of knowledge, innovation and development in all fields of science and technology. Including indigenous knowledge, thereby contributing to the improvement of the quality of life of all the people of South Africa.

The Nelson Mandela University in Port Elizabeth is a new generation University offering quality higher education to more than 27 000 students across six campuses, making it the largest in the Eastern Cape. NMU believes in nurturing innovation, fostering creativity and embracing technology. The Central University of Technology in Bloemfontein is all about innovation, invention, and development. At CUTis we are constantly developing innovative technology, our different divisions are at the forefront of additive manufacturing, advanced product manufacturing, rapid prototyping, agriculture, food safety, robotics, and medical device innovation. The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) conducts multidisciplinary research and technological innovation to foster industrial and scientific development. The organisation focuses its research and development on national priorities in the areas of health, industry, defence and security, the natural, built and digital environments, as well as energy. In addition, the CSIR invests in and explores new research areas to help shape future applications

The Cape Peninsula University of Technology is at the heart of technology education and innovation in Africa. An internationally acclaimed institution, it is the only university of technology in the Western Cape and is the largest university in the region with an enrolment of more than 30 000 students. The university has six faculties offering a wide range of accredited undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the fields of Applied Sciences, Business, Education and Social Sciences, Engineering, Informatics and Design as well as Health and Wellness Sciences.

Wits Commercial Enterprise (Pty) Ltd is a private company, wholly owned by the University of the Witwatersrand, focused on the marketing and commercialisation of the University's intellectual capital through short course management, research support, and Intellectual Property management and Technology Transfer. We are focused on facilitating the identification, protection, and utilisation of intellectual property created through research, for social and/or economic benefit.
