Overview of Business

Marulasoft (Pty) Ltd is a South African research and development company building digital infrastructure for informal economies. Our mission is to close the digital gap by creating solutions that solve real problems in everyday township life—especially in sectors like public transport and food services that are often overlooked by traditional tech innovation.

We own and operate two core platforms: Areye and Maregula, each designed to digitize high-volume, low-tech sectors in ways that are practical, scalable, and deeply rooted in local realities.

1. Areye – Real-Time Visibility for Public Transport

Areye is a peer-to-peer mobile platform built to bring real-time tracking to South Africa’s informal transport sector, especially taxis and rural buses. It allows any commuter to share the live location of the taxi or bus they are in, making it visible to others waiting for transport. This brings safety, predictability, and convenience to millions who depend on these services daily.

  • Main Features: Commuter-led vehicle location sharing, route visibility, history of trips.
  • Impact: Shorter wait times, improved safety, and industry data that supports better planning for vehicle owners.
  • Business Model: Controlled advertising revenue with future expansion into digital payments (Areye Coin) and subscription services for transport operators.
  • Added Value: Areye is already advancing transport digitisation through vehicle camera installations, helping taxi owners with insurance, monitoring, and accident reporting.

2. Maregula – Digitising Township Fast-Food Ordering

Maregula is a mobile and web-based platform that transforms how fast food is ordered and served in townships. The app allows customers to browse menus, place orders, and receive a unique token-based confirmation that can be used to collect the food in person, ensuring trust and accuracy even without upfront online payments.

  • Main Features: Digital menu browsing, order placement, and token-based validation.
  • Impact: Cuts down long queues, improves customer experience, and helps informal fast-food vendors modernise operations.
  • Business Model: Revenue from vendor commissions, advertising, and optional subscription packages for business tools.

Our Purpose

At Marulasoft, we don’t build flashy solutions—we build the missing tools that informal economies need. From reducing transport uncertainty with Areye to streamlining food ordering with Maregula, our focus is on affordable, community-driven innovation.

We’re laying the foundation for digital transformation in the places that need it most, starting from the ground up.
