World Conference of Science Journalists (WCSJ) 2025
The World Conference of Science Journalists (WCSJ) 2025 will take place from 1-5 December 2025 at the CSIR International Convention Centre in Pretoria, South Africa, under the theme “Science journalism and social justice: journalism that builds understanding and resilience”. The conference will bring together science journalists, editors, communicators, researchers, and stakeholders to explore how science reporting can support more just, informed, and resilient societies in the face of global challenges.
Organised by the South African Science Journalists’ Association (SASJA) with the support of the Science Diplomacy Capital for Africa (SDCfA), an initiative of the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTI) and the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), the event provides a platform for sharing best practice, stimulating debate, and co-developing solutions for strengthening science journalism globally. Delegates will have opportunities to participate in plenary sessions, parallel panels, skills workshops, networking activities, and discussions focused on reporting science in ways that centre equity, inclusion, and public resilience.
In addition to the in-person programme, WCSJ 2025 offers a virtual attendance option, with remote access to all scheduled sessions on the main programme on 2, 3, and 4 December 2025. Online participants can register for an online-only rate of 550 ZAR (approximately 30 USD) per day or 1 400 ZAR (approximately 80 USD) for all three days, gaining one year of on-demand access to session recordings to watch live or at their convenience. This hybrid format makes it possible for science journalists and communicators worldwide to engage with the content and community even if they cannot travel to Pretoria.
