Overview of Business

ABOUT THE ORGANISATION

The Tall Youth Foundation (TYF) is a women-led nonprofit organization founded in 2020 and headquartered in Paynesville, Montserrado County, Liberia. Registered under the Liberia Business Registry (R/N: 052732565), TYF was established with a clear and purposeful mission to empower youth and women in Liberian communities through education, skills development, and economic opportunity. The organization is led by Founder and CEO Precious T. Yango, an electrical engineer whose technical background is complemented by profound experience in social work with women and children, bringing a uniquely informed and human-centered perspective to TYF's work.

THE CHALLENGE WE ADDRESS

Liberia faces a devastating food security crisis: over 40% of harvested vegetables are lost annually due to the complete absence of modern post-harvest facilities, contributing to a 32% child malnutrition rate (UNICEF, 2023; FAO, 2023). Women farmers, who comprise 60% of Liberia's agricultural workforce, bear the heaviest burden, with 85% lacking any form of cold storage and relying on traditional practices that cannot withstand high temperatures and humidity. Simultaneously, Liberian youth face limited economic opportunities, lacking access to digital education and the technical skills required in today's increasingly digital economy.

WHAT WE DO

TYF operates across two primary areas of impact. Through its digital education initiative, the organization provides youth with access to technology-driven learning opportunities that equip them with the skills needed to participate and compete in an increasingly digital world, addressing a critical gap in educational access and quality that limits the prospects of young Liberians.

In parallel, TYF works directly with women farmers to address the significant post-harvest losses that undermine agricultural livelihoods across rural communities. By partnering with Tunel-group to develop solar-powered cold storage facilities, the organization enables women farmers to preserve, process, and add value to their produce, extending shelf life by 300%, reducing spoilage by 40%, and ensuring year-round vegetable availability. Operating on 10,000 acres of owned agricultural land, TYF cultivates six primary crops (cucumber, pepper, bitter boy, watermelon, maize, and cabbage) with confirmed distribution partnerships serving 50 local markets, 3,000 schools, 25 hospitals, and 5,000 daily consumers, while also targeting export markets to generate sustainable revenue.

VISION & IMPACT

TYF is guided by a vision of empowered Liberian communities where youth have the digital skills to build meaningful futures and women farmers have the infrastructure and support to achieve sustainable livelihoods. Since its founding in 2020, the organization has been building the foundations of a scalable and impactful model that addresses interconnected challenges of education, economic empowerment, and food security. Our post-harvest infrastructure project will create 500 jobs, directly benefit 400 women farmers with a 25% income increase, and generate projected first-year revenue of close to a million, while reducing energy costs by 40% through solar power.

FUNDING & GROWTH

To accelerate and expand its impact, TYF is actively seeking between $200,000 and $500,000 USD in funding across a range of instruments, including grants, loans, venture capital, angel investment, crowdfunding, equity investment, and seed funding.

The money raised will be used for four main goals: working with Tunel-group to build modern solar-powered facilities for storing crops; supporting local activities like buying seeds, farming tools, training farmers, and setting up distribution systems; creating digital education programs aimed at girls and young women in Marshall, Margibi County, where over 60% lack digital skills and private training costs $100–200 USD per course, which families often can't afford, especially for daughters who are discouraged from technical education; and developing skills programs in both farming and digital education to help vulnerable youth, especially girls, gain the digital skills that employers need but are hard to find in Liberia's job market.

With a 36-month investment period and 15% projected returns for debt investors, this is a meaningful opportunity to invest in a grassroots, women-led organization delivering real and lasting impact in Liberia, addressing food security, women's economic empowerment, youth unemployment, and digital inclusion simultaneously.
