SMME Commercialisation Workshop: Empowering Entrepreneurs
The Department of Science and Innovation, through the National Intellectual Property Management Office (NIPMO), in partnership with the Technology Innovation Agency (TIA) and the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property, invites SMME owners, innovators and intellectual property enthusiasts to the upcoming three-day workshop in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape.
The workshop is designed to equip SMMEs with the tools and knowledge essential for success. Whether you are just starting out or aiming to scale up your business, this workshop will give you invaluable insights and practical advice from industry experts to help you succeed.
Out of the workshop, you will:
- Learn how to protect and leverage your innovations for commercial success.
- Discover strategies for crafting and promoting your brand effectively.
- Acquire an understanding of the key aspects of intellectual property (IP) valuation and licensing in technology sectors.
- Get the chance to pitch your business to experts, with selected participants receiving one-on-one mentorship.
Who should enrol?
This workshop is targeted at SMME owners and innovators. However, anyone interested in IP commercialisation as part of the innovation journey is welcome to attend. Whether you want to enhance your understanding of IP portfolio management or refine your negotiation skills with IP asset holders, you are welcome to join us.
To maximise participant interaction and learning opportunities, we have capped the number of participants at 30.

What are the costs involved?
The training course is free. However, the cost of your transport and accommodation will be for your own account. The Technology Innovation Agency and the National Intellectual Property Management Office aim to offer travel and/or accommodation assistance to up to 15 participants. A motivation for support needs to be submitted with registration.
