Skilling for Employment Programme (SEP) Phase 2 Strategic Intervention: Empowering SMMEs for Market Entry in the Just Energy Transition (JET)

The National Business Initiative (NBI) is driving this campaign, focusing on the IRM Initiative.
Target Beneficiaries: Local Small, Medium, and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs), township enterprises, TVET students, youth entrepreneurs, and artisans.
The goal is to empower SMMEs by removing technical, financial, and market barriers, enabling them to create more jobs and play a key role in building a sustainable and inclusive Just Energy Transition (JET).
Interventions: The strategic intervention involves providing local SMMEs with incubation and mentorship support for market entry. This support focuses on upskilling SMMEs to become reliable 'suppliers' for corporates by supporting certifications for compliance, providing structured capacity building, and facilitating access to finance and funding readiness through networks. The primary focus is on opportunities within the green and circular economy and the Installation, Repair, and Maintenance (IRM) sector.
The related NBI campaign began activation in September and October 2025 (17 September 2025 and 15 October 2025).
Location of Hubs: Phase 1 hub support for SMME incubation is available in Mpumalanga, Western Cape, and Gauteng. Specific areas for activation include Ekurhuleni, Tshwane, Standerton, Mandeni, Cape Town, and the Garden Route (George, Mossel Bay, and surroundings).
