Revolutionising Education Through Innovation and Empowerment
Mpho Munthali the Co-founder of Digitab, is on a mission to transform education by making learning more accessible, engaging, and fun. Inspired by her own experiences growing up without access to digital tools and the burdens of traditional education methods, Mpho is determined to close the gap in digital transformation and ensure that everyone has the opportunity to learn in innovative ways.
Inspiration Behind Digitab
Growing up, Mpho was not fortunate enough to have a laptop or the opportunity to learn how to operate one at home. She remembers the struggles of carrying heavy books, the lack of interest in reading them, and the disconnect between being taught in a traditional classroom setting versus truly engaging with the material. These experiences shaped her understanding of the importance of participation and engagement in the learning process.
The innovation tackles several critical issues. Digitab is a digital solution that reduces the need for heavy textbooks, reducing back pain and promoting engagement.
“We aim to make learning more interactive and enjoyable, improving retention of information. Digitab also addresses the growing concern of theft of school appliances by integrating advanced digital tools, offering a secure alternative to traditional methods. This innovative approach helps students manage their education more effectively,” she shares.
Mpho and her partners are driven by the belief that education should be a tool for empowerment, not a burden. The goal is to create a safer, more effective learning environment for all students.
Contribution to Society
Digitab’s business model emphasizes local manufacturing, youth employment and graduate recruitment. By producing Digitab locally, they ensure that the product is affordable and accessible to those who need it most.
Overcoming Challenges as a Female Entrepreneur
As a female entrepreneur, Mpho has faced challenges, such as getting her products noticed, which was a hurdle. Opportunities for mentorship and support were limited. Balancing family and work responsibilities added another layer of complexity to her entrepreneurial journey.
Despite these obstacles, she remains committed to her vision for Digitab and hopes that by sharing her experiences, she can inspire and support other female entrepreneurs facing similar challenges.
“To succeed as a female entrepreneur, trust your instincts, embrace your uniqueness, build a supportive network, be resilient, prioritise self-care, seek mentorship, stay adaptable, celebrate successes, and embrace your femininity. Focus on your strengths and celebrate your achievements,” she says.
