Thokozile Mahlangu, a health-conscious entrepreneur with a passion for creating wholesome beverages and founder of Lungi Licious, a beverage company offering plant-based, nutritious, and delicious drinks realised that available beverages were neither plant-based nor particularly healthy. This inspired her to create a line of beverages that not only satisfy the taste buds but also promote an individual’s overall well-being.

“The idea to start my business was born out of a personal passion for health and wellness, coupled with a recognition of a significant gap in the beverage market,” says Thokozile.

Lungi Licious’ mission is to revolutionise the beverage industry by offering delicious, plant-based alternatives that are packed with nutrients and free from artificial ingredients. “We believe that what we consume has a profound impact on our health and everyone deserves access to beverages that support their lifestyle and wellness goals,” she says.

She adds, “Our innovative approach involves sourcing the highest quality plant-based ingredients and combining them in ways that enhance both flavour and health benefits. Whether you are looking for a refreshing drink to hydrate after a workout, a calming tea to unwind, or a nutritious option for a mid-day boost, our products are designed to meet these needs.”

By offering nutritious and delicious plant-based beverages, Thokozile empowers individuals to make healthier choices that benefit their well-being and the environment. The aim is to raise awareness of the importance of healthy living and ethical consumption.

“We strive to minimise our environmental footprint through sustainable sourcing, eco-friendly packaging, and waste reduction initiatives. Our efforts support local farmers and suppliers, contributing to the economic growth of our community and promoting sustainable agricultural practices,” Thokozile explains.

Mahlangu has overcome challenges in acquiring equipment, securing production space and funding. She used creative problem-solving and strategic partnerships to find the right solutions. The entrepreneur also built a solid business plan and tapped into supportive networks.

“Each hurdle has strengthened our resolve to succeed and to support other women in the industry. By sharing our experiences and advocating for greater inclusivity, we aim to pave the way for future female entrepreneurs,” she adds.

Starting and growing a business as a female entrepreneur can be incredibly rewarding, but it comes with its unique set of challenges, Thokozile advises female entrepreneurs to remember that they are not alone on this journey. “By leveraging the power of community, continuous learning, and self-belief, you can overcome obstacles and achieve remarkable success,” she concludes.
