Alizwa Ngqukumba founded Liyelana Skincare to fill a gap in the market for indigenous herb-based skincare products. "The non-existence of products using herbs like impepho, umhlonyane, and cannabis from Emampondweni inspired me to create something unique," she shares.

Her business not only promotes traditional ingredients but also contributes to society by creating jobs in marginalized rural areas of the Eastern Cape. "By teaching new skills in product-making, we are driving rural development and alleviating poverty," she explains.

As a young, black woman leader, Alizwa has faced challenges with patriarchy. "Men tend to look down on me and think they can speak anyhow. I have overcome this by standing my ground and refusing to be bullied," she says.

Her advice to other female entrepreneurs? "Start. It all must begin somewhere. Do not listen to the noise. Stay focused, disciplined, and consistent."
