Apply for Funding from the CMT Research Foundation
The CMT Research Foundation is committed to delivering treatments and cures for Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT) through targeted funding for high-potential scientific research. Grants support research leading to the development of therapeutics for all CMT types, based on the foundation’s research priorities, though innovative new approaches are also welcomed.
Funding is available globally to academic medical centers, universities, non-profit and for-profit research organizations, and biotechnology companies actively engaged in CMT research. A flexible, iterative application process allows advice and feedback from CMT and industry advisors. Awards typically range from $100,000 to $200,000 per year and may extend for one to three years, with the possibility of ongoing support contingent on project milestones and data outcomes. Exceptional proposals with higher budgets will be considered. Co-funding with other agencies, companies, or investors is encouraged.
Applicants must submit a Letter of Intent (LOI) before a full proposal. LOIs are accepted on a rolling basis and reviewed quarterly. After review, selected applicants are invited to submit a detailed proposal including a lay summary, scientific rationale, experimental plan, budget, biosketches, and supporting documentation. Indirect costs are funded up to 10%. All awards are contingent upon successful negotiation of contract terms, and funding to for-profit organizations is provided when the project aligns with the foundation mission and allows potential return on investment if IP becomes commercially profitable.
