Allan Gray Makers Startup Academy for Aspiring Artisan Entrepreneurs
The Allan & Gill Gray Philanthropy South Africa initiative is seeking 50 candidates per province from Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape, Mpumalanga, and Limpopo.
The Allan Gray Makers Startup Academy is a fully funded, 8-month incubation programme tailored for aspiring artisan entrepreneurs specialising in the Plumbing and Electrical trades. Participants will receive comprehensive business training and support to launch their own businesses.
Programme Overview:
- Access to wrap-around support
- A basic living allowance, personal mentor, industry mentor,
mental health support service, and business shadowing and networking - Blended Learning Environment: A combination of in-person classes, peer-to-peer learning, online self-work, fieldwork, individual and group mentoring
Requirements:
- Age: 18-35
- Relevant trade: Electrical/Plumbing
- Unemployed or self-employed (not studying)
- Qualified electrician or plumber with a trade test
OR, have 3 years work experience in the relevant trade and are ready to take the trade test
OR, N2 certificate and 3 years work experience in either the electrical or plumbing trade - Desire to start their own business

- N2 Certificate/National Technical Diploma/Trade Test if applicable
- Proof of work experience
- National Senior Certificate (is advantageous)
- Certified Copy of ID
