Plant seedling growing media
The patented process to alter raw sugarcane bagasse pith into a suitable mushroom casing soil forms the foundation of the proposed seedling growth medium technology development. Growth media that meet the specific growth requirements suitable for seedling and plant growth are determined by structure, fibre content, nutrient content, and particle size distribution, plasticity, EC, pH, cation exchange capacity and more. Various additions and alterations to the developed pith growth medium basis are created and trialled for crop specific media. Preliminary small scale processing has proven the viability and potential use of a pith growth medium as a basis in the horticultural industry. However, high volume procedures need to be developed and optimised to meet the criteria for a good growth medium basis of consistent quality and content.
