Overview of Business

T Kau Trading (Pty) Ltd is a Level 1 B-BBEE solar and backup power solutions provider based in Etwatwa, on the East Rand of Johannesburg. Operating since 2018, the company specialises in solar installations, repairs and upgrades for residential and commercial customers. As an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) provider, T Kau Trading develops tailored solar solutions based on each client's energy requirements, usage patterns and budget.

Services and Solutions

The company installs off-grid and hybrid solar systems, using solutions from its approved suppliers and technology partners, including Segen Solar (Pty) Ltd and Sunsynk. Each system is designed around the customer's specific needs, whether supporting a small business that primarily operates during the day or providing backup power for a restaurant during load-shedding while helping reduce electricity costs.

T Kau Trading also assists clients with the registration of solar systems with municipalities or Eskom. Systems can be designed to support auxiliary loads such as geysers, stoves and water pumps.

Experience and Track Record

Since 2018, the company has installed a combined 250 kW of solar capacity for residential and commercial customers across Gauteng, Limpopo and Mpumalanga. Its main operational area is Gauteng, although it also undertakes projects in other provinces.

The business is a member of the South African Photovoltaic Industry Association (SAPVIA), a PV Green Card certified installer, and an approved installer for Segen Solar (Pty) Ltd and Sunsynk. It has a team of six technicians and offers a 12-month workmanship warranty to provide clients with assurance regarding the quality of its installations.

Growth and Expansion Plans

T Kau Trading aims to expand its services into KwaZulu-Natal and the Northern Cape while growing its operations in Limpopo and Mpumalanga. To support this expansion, the company intends to strengthen its marketing and social media campaigns, formally train three casual workers, acquire safety equipment and tools, improve its office equipment, and increase inventory.

Investment Requirements

The business is seeking equity investment to strengthen its operational capacity, improve service delivery, develop its workforce and support expansion into additional markets. The investment will help the company build its capacity to compete with more established solar providers while continuing to serve residential and commercial customers.
