The Standard Bank Tuksnovation Innovation Challenge 2026 is an impact-driven accelerator programme designed to support high-potential entrepreneurs in building scalable, sustainable, and market-ready businesses. Now in its 2026 edition, the programme has evolved to offer a more curated cohort, broader sector inclusion, and strengthened post-programme development to ensure long-term business success.

The programme is a collaboration between Standard Bank and TuksNovation, the innovation and entrepreneurship hub of the University of Pretoria, bridging the gap between academia, industry, and the private sector in support of South Africa's entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Programme Structure

The 2026 programme runs over two phases:

Phase 1 — Three-Month Development Programme A focused, hands-on accelerator journey covering business diagnostics, expert masterclasses, and tailored mentorship. The programme is designed specifically for established entrepreneurs who are ready to scale — not early-stage startups. The 2026 cohort is limited to 20 entrepreneurs, ensuring a highly curated and personalised experience.

Phase 2 — Six-Month Post-Programme Support Following the main programme, participants receive six months of continued support including market linkages, funding advice, and business reviews to sustain growth momentum and ensure long-term success beyond the programme period.

What the Programme Offers

  • Business diagnostics to identify operational strengths and growth gaps
  • Expert masterclasses across key business disciplines
  • Tailored one-on-one mentorship from industry leaders
  • Access to funding guidance and financial planning support
  • Market linkages and procurement support
  • Connections to Standard Bank's network and the University of Pretoria ecosystem
  • Six months of post-programme follow-up, reviews, and milestone tracking
  • Guidance on reporting and effective use of grant funding for awardees

Sectors Supported

The 2026 edition expands beyond technology to embrace a broader range of priority economic sectors, including agribusiness, green economy, manufacturing, wellness, and creative industries. This reflects the programme's commitment to driving innovation and competitiveness across the full spectrum of South Africa's economy.

Award Criteria

Grant prizes are awarded by expert judges based on the following criteria:

  • Financial stability — the business demonstrates sound financial management and sustainability
  • Scalability — the business model has clear potential for significant growth
  • Impact — the business creates meaningful social, economic, or environmental value
  • Leadership — the founder and team demonstrate capability, vision, and resilience
  • Sector alignment — the business operates in or connects to a priority economic sector

Awardees receive ongoing guidance on financial planning, procurement, and reporting to ensure effective and impactful use of funds. Milestone tracking and regular reviews ensure that funding drives meaningful business expansion.

Who Can Apply

The programme is open to entrepreneurs who meet the following profile:

  • Must be running an established business operational for more than two years
  • Must be a high-potential entrepreneur ready to scale — not a startup or pre-revenue business
  • Must be operating in or connecting to one of the programme's supported sectors
  • Must be committed to the full three-month programme and six-month follow-up period

The 2026 cohort is limited to 20 participants — applications are competitive.
