The Nkabom Programme 2026, supported by the Embassy of France in Ghana, is a bilateral funding initiative designed to strengthen scientific collaboration between France and Ghana.

The programme supports joint research projects that promote mobility, knowledge exchange, and long-term research partnerships between institutions in both countries. It places strong emphasis on scientific excellence, innovation, and the involvement of young researchers, particularly in areas addressing societal challenges, including Artificial Intelligence.

The initiative aims to build sustainable research networks while enhancing skills transfer, innovation capacity, and collaboration between French and Ghanaian research ecosystems.

Type of Projects to be Funded

• Joint bilateral research projects between France and Ghana
• Projects promoting scientific and technological exchange
• Research addressing societal challenges, including Artificial Intelligence
• Initiatives that strengthen research networks and collaboration
• Projects involving doctoral and postdoctoral researchers

Funding Information

• Maximum funding: €10,000 per project
• Maximum per team: €5,000
• Project duration: 1 year
• Funding focus: Mobility costs between France and Ghana
• Mobility period: 2026 only

Note: Additional funding must be secured from participating institutions or other sources.

Eligibility – Countries

• France
• Ghana

Eligibility – Organisations

• Research laboratories affiliated with higher education institutions
• Recognised research organisations in France and Ghana

Projects must be jointly led by:

• One scientific lead based in France
• One scientific lead based in Ghana

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

• Form a bilateral research partnership between France and Ghana
• Submit a jointly coordinated project proposal
• Include active participation of young researchers (PhD and postdoctoral)
• Demonstrate commitment to mobility activities in 2026
• Show potential for long-term collaboration and network building

Evaluation Criteria

Proposals will be assessed based on:

• Scientific quality and relevance
• Expertise and complementarity of research teams
• Involvement of young researchers
• Strength and sustainability of bilateral collaboration
• Contribution to research network development
• Gender balance within research teams

Key Requirements

• Mobility activities must take place within 2026
• Budget must not exceed €5,000 per team
• Projects must include clear collaboration and knowledge exchange plans
• Scientific and financial reports must be submitted at project completion

What Will NOT Be Prioritised

• Projects previously funded under the Nkabom programme (immediate re-application)
• Proposals lacking strong bilateral collaboration
• Projects without young researcher involvement
• Activities outside the defined mobility period
