What Makes the Business Innovative

Kasana Computer School and Repair Centre's innovation lies in its integrated, community-based ICT model, which combines accredited digital skills development with practical technical services within an underserved rural and semi-urban environment.

Hybrid Service Hub Model

Unlike organisations that separate training from technical services, Kasana combines its accredited training academy with computer repairs, networking, CCTV and other technical services. This gives learners exposure to real-world technical challenges while creating a sustainable service model that supports continued access to training.

Multi-SETA Skills Development

The organisation's accreditations with MICT SETA, Services SETA and W&R SETA enable it to provide training across different areas of the local business ecosystem, from digital literacy and office skills to project management, retail-related skills and New Venture Creation.

Last-Mile Digital Inclusion

Kasana addresses digital access challenges in Cala and surrounding communities by bringing ICT training and technical services closer to underserved populations. This includes local computer repairs, networking, CCTV installations and other technology services that would otherwise require customers to travel to larger towns or cities.

Entrepreneurship Development

The organisation also uses its training programmes to support local entrepreneurship, helping individuals develop digital, administrative and business skills that can enable them to establish and operate their own small enterprises.

Target Beneficiaries and Customers

Kasana Computer School and Repair Centre serves several groups across Cala, Sakhisizwe Municipality and the broader Chris Hani District Municipality, including:

  • Local youth and unemployed individuals seeking digital skills and employment opportunities.
  • Aspiring entrepreneurs and SMMEs requiring business, digital and entrepreneurship training.
  • Public and private sector employees, including municipal workers, educators and administrative staff seeking to improve their digital and workplace skills.
  • Schools, households and community organisations requiring ICT support, repairs, printing and technology installations.

The organisation has maintained its multi-SETA accreditation and developed a strong understanding of the needs of communities in Cala, Sakhisizwe Municipality and the wider Chris Hani District.

Its impact includes:

  • Improving digital literacy and workforce readiness among local youth.
  • Providing New Venture Creation and business capacity-building support to aspiring entrepreneurs and SMMEs.
  • Providing local technical support, including computer repairs, networking and CCTV/DSTV installations.
  • Improving access to accredited digital skills training in rural and underserved communities.
  • Supporting digital inclusion across different generations, from school leavers to public-sector employees and other professionals.

Growth Plans

Kasana Computer School and Repair Centre plans to expand its operations and increase its impact across the Eastern Cape through:

  • Expanding its accreditation portfolio from NQF Level 3 to NQF Levels 4 and 5, including areas such as Systems Development, Technical Support and Cybersecurity.
  • Establishing mobile digital classrooms to bring accredited ICT training to rural communities beyond Cala.
  • Upgrading its technical workshop with specialised diagnostic and micro-soldering equipment to enable advanced component-level computer repairs.
  • Investing in solar power and inverter infrastructure to maintain training and business operations during electricity disruptions.

Funding and Support Required

The organisation is seeking funding and strategic partnerships to support its expansion and strengthen its ability to deliver ICT training and technical services to underserved communities.

Infrastructure and Equipment

Funding is required for:

  • More than 20 high-specification desktop computers
  • Interactive smartboards
  • Local server infrastructure
