Overview of innovation

SiMo Green Eco bricks and blocks is an idea that come about when it became clear that the world is heading in a direction of a greener economy. The making of bricks and blocks involves the use of raw materials that when extracted have a substantial burden on the contribution to Global warming. As a result an idea to make eco bricks and blocks that are entirely made of recycled waste material, that possess the same adhesive effects and better and improved properties.

The raw materials to be used, will be waste materials from burning of fossil fuels and other raw materials. These raw materials react with calcium hydroxide, in the presence of water, to form cementing compounds consisting of calcium silicate hydrate. The result is a more homogeneous microstructure that has greater strength and lower permeability.

The raw materials used are 100% waste and also use less amount of water compared to conventional concrete and clay bricks and blocks. A significant percentage of these raw materials are usually destined for landfill and this has an impact on depositing metals in the underground water. By introducing these raw materials into the production of SiMo Green Eco Bricks and Blocks will play a significant role in reducing this impact.

Government has gazetted a number of policies which seek to move the country towards creating green jobs and a green economy. The aim of this project is to see the making of this innovative product creating jobs and reducing the need and use of natural resources and thus reducing the impact of global warming. With government having gazetted infrastructure projects worth R340bn, we believe introducing this building block, will not only reduce costs, but will be ensuring that the infrastructure build, stands the test of time with the structural properties this product possesses.

The role of this innovative product will be contributing towards reducing the cost of building houses and also contributing to a greener economy.
