Overview of innovation

Nambu is an early stage insect protein company that turns food waste into high quality protein for use in animal feed. Our products are ideally suited for use in the poultry, pig and aquaculture industries, and provides a cost-effective alternative to soya and fish meal based feeds. By-products include a nutrient rich soil amendment that forms an ideal natural alternative to chemical fertilizers, as well as chitin for use in the bio-medical, pharmaceutical and bio-plastics sectors. The company offers remote and on-site training and consulting services, as well as providing basic production equipment and assisting in the establishment of grow-out facilities. Our customers mainly comprise farmers and feed mills with the company being driven by the desire to offer sustainable inputs into the agricultural sector.

We are committed to driving a distributed model of business growth that enables the rapid redeployment and replication of this emerging technology to as many regions as possible. Our system is designed for operation in low capital, low tech and low cost environments, instead making use of abundant human resources and readily available equipment that is appropriate for the African context.
