This global Grand Challenges call for proposals focuses on leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to transform how individuals and institutions engage in charitable giving.

The initiative seeks innovative, AI-driven solutions that can help donors make better decisions, increase the volume and speed of giving, and strengthen the overall philanthropic ecosystem. The goal is to move donors from intent to action by improving discovery, trust, and ease of giving, particularly in areas aligned with global health and development. 

Type of Projects to be Funded

Projects must address at least one of the following challenge areas:

1. Help donors connect with causes and make informed decisions
AI-powered tools that improve discovery, understanding, and alignment between donors and causes.

2. Convert intent into actual donations
Solutions that reduce friction in the giving process and increase follow-through and engagement.

3. Strengthen the infrastructure for AI-enabled giving
Foundational systems such as data pipelines, interoperability tools, fraud detection, and AI-ready philanthropic datasets.

Eligibility – Countries

Global open call.

Applicants from all countries are eligible.

Eligibility – Type of Organisations

• Non-profit and civil society organisations (including NGOs and community-based organisations)
• Mission-driven for-profit companies with a clear public-benefit focus
• Consortia, partnerships, and collaborative proposals

Not eligible:
• Individuals (as defined for U.S. tax purposes)
• Government agencies
• Academic institutions applying independently (must be part of a consortium) 

Funding Information

• Up to USD 150,000 per project
• Duration: up to 12 months 

Funding supports pilot projects, testing, and validation of AI-enabled solutions.

Key Requirements

Proposals must:

• Directly address the core question: How might AI support donors to give more and give sooner?
• Demonstrate real-world applicability and measurable impact
• Include a clear methodology for testing and validation
• Define success metrics (e.g., donor behaviour change, increased giving)
• Show potential for scale beyond the pilot phase
• Integrate responsible AI practices (fairness, transparency, data governance)

What is Out of Scope

• Solutions not centred on AI
• Purely commercial product development
• Projects without clear relevance to donor decision-making or charitable giving
• Proposals lacking a testing or learning component
