The IKI Small Grants programme, part of Germany’s International Climate Initiative (IKI), provides targeted support to local, national, and regional organisations in ODA-eligible countries to implement impactful climate and biodiversity projects. Funding ranges from €60,000 to €200,000 per project, with the aim to strengthen local resilience, support ecosystem protection, and address climate change at the frontline where impacts are most severe. Projects focus on climate change mitigation, adaptation, conservation of natural carbon sinks (REDD+), and biodiversity protection.

Since 2019, IKI Small Grants has funded over 250 initiatives worldwide, supporting 48,000+ people and protecting nearly 100,000 hectares of land and coastal ecosystems. Capacity development measures are offered to strengthen applicants’ roles as agents of change. Funding is managed by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, and technical and financial support are also provided to national/regional institutions for their own grant calls.
